Dr. Gonzalez's work centers on clinically actionable questions: earlier detection of underrecognized disease, better use of point-of-care ultrasound, and thoughtful integration of technology, always grounded in patient context. His trajectory runs from peer-reviewed orthopedic outcomes research toward translational sports medicine and primary care investigation.

He initiated and leads a PROSPERO-registered systematic review and meta-analysis (CRD42025637353) on home- and office-based sarcopenia screening in adults ages 40–60. He designed the research question and protocol, co-developed the search strategy with three research librarians, coordinated a five-member team, and serves as first reviewer, with statistician support for extraction and meta-analysis under sports medicine faculty oversight.

He also led a disparity-focused, data-driven study of abdominal aortic aneurysm screening in an underserved FQHC population. He built the protocol, ran the statistical analysis (chi-square, logistic regression, model performance), and made the case for point-of-care ultrasound as a screening solution for those most likely to fall through the cracks. The work earned a research poster award for exemplary scientific and methodological rigor, with a manuscript in preparation.

Dr. Gonzalez designed and led a clinical AI elective modeling osteoarthritis pain scores from the OAI dataset, completing the Stanford/MIT "AI in Healthcare" curriculum and teaching a departmental didactic on machine learning for clinicians. It reflects a broader interest in data-informed care that stays grounded in the exam room.
